This chocolate torte from Sainsbury’s is rich, smooth and slightly gooey in the centre, everything a perfect partner – sorry – dessert should be.
If you don’t have a heart shaped tin don’t worry the torte is just as delicious whatever it’s shape.
You do need a few candidates on your valentine list though as it serves 10 good portions – and if it does fail to do the trick there will be enough left over for a spot of comfort eating.
CHOCOLATE TRUFFLE TORTE
Serves 10-12
INGREDIENTS:
400 g dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa solids), broken into pieces
250 g butter, cut into pieces
6 large eggs
400 g caster sugar
100 g ground almonds
few raspberries for decoration
METHOD:
Preheat the oven to 180C/Gas 4.
Lightly grease a 23 cm round x 7 cm deep cake tin and line the base with baking parchment.
Melt the chocolate and butter together in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. When smooth set aside to cool slightly.
Using an electric hand whisk, beat the sugar and eggs together with a pinch of salt for about ten minutes until pale and thickened.
Fold in the chocolate mixture and the almonds until completely blended then pour into the prepared tin.
Place on a baking tray and bake in the centre of the oven for about 45 minutes until spongy to the touch but still a little wobbly in the middle. Remove from the oven and leave to cool in the tin.
Chill until ready to serve. Turn out of the tin and decorate with a few raspberries.
Serve with vanilla ice cream.
Great minds think alike! On Valentine’s I made a chocolate torte too with some brandy. Yum!
